My friend and I went to Q Mex recently to have dinner. While it was a decent meal, the experience was quite disappointing, and the other patrons who entered the restaurant thinking it was Kro's Nest were also very disappointed.
My friend order a burrito for ¥60 that was very good and I wished I had ordered that instead of the sad onion and cheese enchiladas I ordered for ¥85. Although the burrito was tasty, it was disconcerting to see the stream of oil that leaked out of the burrito after taking a bite. After the burrito was gone, there was a lake of oil on the plate.
Regarding the drinks, I ordered the Zombie cocktail. While the drink was good in true Q Bar fashion, the flaming oil served in a lychee shell on top of the drink melted my straw with the plastic goo flowing down into my drink. After that, it ruined the drink for me.
Another problem was that the menus had no Chinese printed on them which created lots of confusion when ordering dishes. Some Chinese couples at the tables nearby had no idea what they were looking at when reading the menu. Ordering the dishes required pointing since verbal communicating my order in English or Chinese was pointless. When we decided to order a bowl of guacamole later during the meal, the waitress had no idea what we were talking about. She had to bring over the menu so we could point to it, the same went for the other tables around us. If the food names were printed in Chinese, it might avoid this confusion.
While I'm happy there's another Mexican option available, I think Q Mex has a lot of improvements to make.
