I am really desperate to like this place and have ordered a few times hoping it gets better, but it seems to be getting worse if anything.
Delivery is great - usually less than 30 minutes from order to door, but the food is very average at best.
Every time I have ordered from here the pizza has come with absolutely no sauce on it at all. It's just a greasy cheese on toast with toppings.
I enquired one time as to whether I could order the pizza with extra sauce and was told, and I quote, that 'the chef cannot add extra sauce, it's company policy'. 8}
With the Parkside, Annies and Pizza Company all around two minutes away and offering similar products at lower prices, it is a lazy option to take. Like Kro's they have cornered their part of the market very well (order and delivery for expats) so props to that, but lack of competition means an inferior product.

Re: Second best Pizza in Beijing....Seriously?
Do you live around dongsishitiao by any chance???
I am asking because I would like to have some more choice for delivery but so far I just have Gungho number and, as you said, is pretty boring/average (and quite expensive)
cheers

Re: Second best Pizza in Beijing....Seriously?
Yea see The "Best Pizza Awards" are not really the best pizza it is just who is willing to pay Thebeijinger for the coveted title.
Just like "Blue frog" has the best burgers, its just who pays the most. For example Kros Nest pizza sucks, and they won because they paid the most.

What is with this PetePete guy. He slamms all these restaurants and the beijinger for a vote generated by the readers of the beijinger. I have never seen an ad for alot of the places that win awards. Seriously dude, if you are such an expert-ex meaning has been, spurt-drip under pressure, in the F&B business, where is the restaurant you are currently running/owning? I am sure that with the content of your mindnumbing exuberance to bash the hardworking people of the restaurant business, you would have the same type of results in a very competetive and hours intensive job. Talent is difficult to come by and from reading your posts about everything on this forum you are the leader in a talent-less narrow gene pool backwoods sister loving monkey farm. Have a nice day!!

Who do you work for billybob
You raise some good points, but you can't really restrict criticism of restaurants to restaurant owners. It would be like saying you cant criticise the government unless you know what it's like to be a politician, can't criticise a prostitute unless, well...you catch my drift.
I think petepete is inferring there is vote rigging going on, which seems a bit far fetched.
I have never seen advertisments for any of the winning restaurants but they do get a good share of column space, probably because they put effort into selling their brand properly, and there is nothing wrong with that at all.
Kro's and Gungo Ho are not great pizza but they do what they do well and have little competition in their areas. Also by way of advertising, I'm sure Kro's well documented business problems a year or so back have done him no harm at all!
You could blind test a Blue Frog burger with ten other establishments in a similar price range and you wouldnt be able to spot it. I'm sure it wins purely on the basis of its location and appeal to the mid twenties expat crowd who aspire to that whole 'Village' lifestyle.
In general people are not voting just for the food, they are voting for a whole list of reasons - Atmosphere, location, service etc...
Getting exposure on the Beijinger is a good way of getting your foot on the the first rung of the expat ladder but you still have to back it up with something that will keep the customers coming back - Home plate BBQ are a very good example of this, and are reaping the rewards.
