Whose potato balls are the best?
Fluffy, fried potato balls are popular favorite at Dai restaurants in Beijing. Do they really have them in Dai country down in Yunnan? Good for them.
Baoqin Daiwei and its neighbor Golden Peacock are the two best Dai joints in Beijing (sorry Cai Yun Jian, or the ones I don't know about). Both places are great. Which is better?
They both have great food. Baoqin Daiwei's prices are less inflated, and I do think the quality of the food is at least a hair superior, possibly as a result of occupying a smaller space, less crazy for the kitchen, maybe?
I think the potato balls at Baoqin Daiwei are better.
However, I have heard from respected sources that Golden Peacock's balls are better.
This restaurant anchors one of the most special culinary enclaves in Beijing. Every time I walk down this stretch of restaurants north of Minzu Daxue I wish I lived nearby.
