This place is nondescript from the exterior, but a couple of renovations over the last couple of years have the dining room clean and in good shape.
My friends from Guizhou introduced me to this place and it has long been one of my favorites in town. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is unpretentious, and the food is absolutely delicious. It can sometimes be tricky to accommodate people that don't eat spicy food here, but it is possible. Their 清炒 (most basic, withholding seasonings) style uses tomatoes and garlic - delicious. But of course their zaola dishes are the biggest draw for me, a really special fermented chilli stir fry.
Although they do suantang yu, I recommend trying an assortment of other dishes instead. I don't like the suantang yu here as much as at Miaoling. The range of stir fries, soups and appetizers here are a rare collection of really exciting foods - like the unbelievable juanfen, which I almost always have to order two of.
The management was close to having their al fresco rooftop seating last fall. This year should finally the year.
