The food was pretty disappointing when I ate there one lunchtime recently. Everything seemed a bit low-key, the selection of dishes lacked variety, and looking at the buffet trays, the pieces of meat and veg were like lonely rock islets in a sea of (fairly bland) sauce.

I admit that buffets never tell the full story of a Indian restaurant - the choice is always limited and often reliant on the more predictable dishes. What a buffet should do, though, is give you enough of a taster to compel you to return and spend a bit more on trying the restaurant "in full" at dinner. If I lived in the area, I'd probably go back sometime to try the dinner - I'd give the lunch another chance too.

I don't live in the area. But lots of people do, and Swagat gets the two stars for giving those people at least one place to eat curries and gorge on an RMB 38 Indian buffet lunch - it may not be the best, but such comforts are a basic amenity every area should have. Other reviewers have given Swagat the thumbs-up, so perhaps they've worked hard on improving things. For Shuangjing's sake, I hope so.
