Fire Damages Dayang Lu Vegetable Market, Burns 50 Trucks
A 2am fire ripped through the Dayang Lu vegetable wholesale market in southeast Beijing, burning 50 trucks and 300 square meters of market stalls, China News reported.
The market, located near the intersection of the East Fourth Ring Road and the G2 highway towards Tianjin, caused significant damage but no injuries, a cause for the fire was not clear as of Monday afternoon.
The light from the fire was so bright that one eyewitness said it "turned night to day."
People at the market speculated that the fire may have been caused by vendors who spent the night there using highly flammable alcohol burners near vehicles, or simply because of cigarette butts disposed of poorly. Fire officials are conducting an investigation into its cause.
