'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' World Tour to Start in Beijing
The folks behind Batman V. Superman are currently getting the promotional ball rolling with a tour of China that will feature stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, along with director Zack Snyder, making appearances in Beijing on Friday and Saturday (Mar 11-12). They even made a little video to announce the trip.
No info yet as to where the cast will head during their visit, but both Batman and Superman are very excited to take in some delicious Chinese cuisine and meet some of their fans.
The much-anticipated follow-up to Man of Steel, Batman v Superman has been granted a simultaneous release with America on Friday, March 25, an event that is becoming more and more common with these big budget movies. This will be the first time that both Batman and Superman have shared the screen, as well as the first time that Wonder Woman has ever appeared in anything other than a TV show or comic book. We guess that’s something to get excited about.
Superhero flicks usually score extremely well with China. The Dark Knight Rises grossed RMB 340 million (USD 54.6 million) in 2012 while Man of Steel made RMB 395 million (USD 63.4 million) in 2013. Neither, however, reached to the box-office heights of the Marvel films. Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron was the second-highest grossing Hollywood film last year, raking in RMB 1.46 billion (USD 241 million).
Whether it’s a massive exhibit of Star Wars memorabilia or Transformers towering over entrances to shopping malls around China, outlandish marketing campaigns have become routine for introducing an upcoming film to the Chinese market and getting fans, new and old, psyched. So prepare yourselves for something larger than life to touch down in the coming weeks.
