'Godfather of Rock' Cui Jian to Hold 30-Year Retrospective Concert, Sep 30

China's "Godfather of Rock" Cui Jian will look back at his 30-year career with a Beijing concert on September 30 at the Workers' Stadium.

A Beijing native and former trumpeter for the Beijing Philharmonic Orchestra, Cui rose to prominence in the late 1980s with poignant folk-rock songs like "Nothing to My Name" and "A Piece of Red Cloth." Known for his husky vocals and energetic live performances, Cui will play songs from his early albums Rock n' Roll for the New Long March, Solution, and Balls Under the Red Flag, up to his more recent The Village Attacks the City.

Cui was banned from performing live in Beijing well into the 21st century. Seeing one of his underground shows at venues around Beijing was a badge of honor for music enthusiasts in the 1990s.

Tickets are on sale from the Xinwenhua website from RMB 280-1,680 each.
