There comes a time when an expat in Beijing thinks, "If I have to eat one more greasy Chinese meal today..." When one just wants to go home, crash, and have something that tastes decent, a bit like home, that isn't too expensive.... and most of all, is easy.
Which is why Annie's is on my speed dial.
You can't really say that any of the food at Annie's is particularly excellent - and certainly not authentic! But Annie's has built its reputation on one thing: reliability.
No matter what you order, it will taste at least pretty good. It will be reasonably priced (relatively speaking). And no matter what - no matter WHAT - it will arrive at your door in exactly 27 minutes, including exact change for your 100.
Pizzas are usually a good choice. The dough is occasionally too soft, which I don't like, but overall the tastes work.
Can't really go wrong with pastas, though sometimes I wonder why I should pay 40 kuai for something I can easily cook at home for 10 kuai. I guess because it tastes so damn good, because I'm lazy, and because I love those little breadsticks.
For something a bit more sophisticated, I've taken quite strongly to the lasagna and the spinach ravioli; both always satisfying.
To put it simply, Annie's is my go-to restaurant when I'm really lazy and hungry for something non-Chinese. In those situations, I know I can count on Annie's; and I often do.

Re: A staple of a Beijing expat's diet
Totally agree!
thanks for this well done review!
I always went to annie´s since I came to Beijing first time in 2009.
And after I got used to the home order service its just an easy, good tasting and quick meal!
Recommandation: Spagetti Arrabbiata! (the spicyness is most of the time jut perfect, but dont eat the little chillis...)
p.:s no more little breadsticks
