It doesn't have the stripped out charm of the old White Rabbit, but Lantern - along with the new White Rabbit - are the only two clubs in Beijing that really work for electronic music. The layout is sensible - unlike the clubs at Gongti, it's a dance club where there's actually space to dance rather than loads of stupid tables and fences - and that's key. Sound and lighting and all are good. The drinks aren't great but you're not really coming here to drink cocktails, are you? Good music, open till all hours and a good crowd - balanced between Chinese and foreigners - make this one of the best places around. A few less Bananas and a few more Lanterns is just what Beijing could be doing with.
