Review of Zhongguancun Bookstore
Great place, the Chinese selection is huge but I can only comment on the english section:
The Chinese's obsession with "classics" will never, ever be more evident or ridiculously manifested than here. About 999999999999 copies of pure "western" "classics", basically euro-centric books chosen to make boring people even more boring and put others to sleep. That being said, there are almost some good books- a copy of Saramago's safest book, a (fake leather bound?!) Edgar Allan Poe collection, plenty of Garcia Marquez and Kundera, and of course, of course, 6 different versions of Crime & Punishment
Still, I did get some Dante Aligheri for 20 yuan

Dante is "western", a writer of "classics", and "euro-centric", endlessly obsessing over the politics of his hometown.

Yup absolutely. My point was that it was cheap!
