Review of MustGuette
3

Before I ordered at MustGuette, my dining companion told me that this is owned or run by the former chef from Let's Burger. If that's true, then he is consistent -- I was disappointed in all the same ways that I was at Let's Burger (Beijing's most overrated eatery, by far), namely that it is overpriced and under-good.

The decor of MustGuette is very tourist London, but it works. It's not too bright, the seats are comfy, and the Wifi works, as such, I will likely visit again, but only for a drink of some kind.

I ordered the Tapas Dog, which is RMB 120, and comes topped with some parma ham, some fried bits that I think were onions, pickle slices, tomato, lettuce, ketchup and mustard, on what looks like a hot dog bun. It's a beef sausage, which initially tasted good, but by the end tasted like breakfast sausage. Although this spot may be going for a more European clientele that is accustomed to eating sandwiches with utensils, a hot dog is traditionally eaten with the hands, which was impossible with so many ingredients. The bun was also far too hard to serve its purpose, so in the end I took it apart to eat the components, although that left ketchup as an ersatz salad dressing. The hot dog is served with exactly nothing, so I left the hard bun when I was finished with the rest, and started wondering where I would go nearby to eat since I wasn't full.

Not only was this hot dog not worth RMB 120, it wasn't worth RMB 60. Although I would be willing to try some of appetizers on the menu, I wouldn't risk any of the more "complicated" items here, like hot dogs or bagels, even though these are supposed to be the restaurant's specialties. I was sad the meal wasn't better -- the decor and location are very appealing and as such I would be willing to go there more.
