Was here for the first time tonight with friends, who live in the area and visit/rave about this place regularly.
First off, I was spoilt for choice looking at the menu. All of the food sounded fantastic, and I was torn between about 4 dishes. In the end I opted for devilled eggs to start and the Nola burger. The eggs were delicious (though I don't think it's hard to mess up devilled eggs!) The burger - the best I've had in Beijing. Tasted really homemade and was really meaty and tasty. It came with melted cheese and salad on a soft, toasted bun with a more than generous helping of seasoned shoe string fries. Puts those Blue Frog attempts on a par with McDonald's.
For starters, my friends ordered something made from sweet potato, 2 different types of chicken wings and some type of spoonbread dish. The sweet potato and spoonbread were new to me, and both very good. The wings were huge, 6 wings to a portion and were kind of battered and smothered in tasty, sticky glazes.
The show stopper for me was my friend's American short rib. When that landed on the table I was hit with a massive pang of food envy! I tried a bit and the meat was lean, juicy and tender. And the portion was huge, despite it looking much smaller on the photo.
I just had beers but my friends had cocktails and said they were delicious.
Decor is simple and understated. A really nice relaxed, civilized vibe. Service was prompt, fast and attentive by knowledgable, helpful English speaking staff.
Our bill for 5 people came to about 240RMB each, that was for 4 starters, 5 mains, 2 desserts and 3 drinks each. I also noticed they have specials on every day, where I believe they have 50% off certain dishes. I think I'll be going back on Thursday to try a half price lamb shank
Shame I live out in the sticks or this place would easily become my regular stop-off.
