Xinjiang is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China (PRC), located in the northwest of the country at the crossroads of Central Asia and East Asia. Being the largest province-level division of China by area . Xinjiang borders the countries of Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The rugged Karakoram, Kunlun and TianShan mountain ranges occupy much of Xinjiang's borders, as well as its western and southern regions. The most well-known route of the historic Silk Road ran through the territory from the east to its northwestern border.

Xinjiang has only about 9.7 percent of Xinjiang's land area is fit for human habitation. It is home to a number of ethnic groups, including the Chinese Tajiks (Pamiris), Han Chinese, Hui, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, Mongols, Russians, Sibe, Tibetans, and Uyghurs. There are more than a dozen autonomous prefectures and counties for minorities in Xinjiang.

Xinjiang is known to the Chinese as Xiyu (“Western Regions”) for centuries, the area became Xinjiang (“New Borders”) upon its annexation under the Qing (Manchu) dynasty in the 18th century. Westerners long called it Chinese Turkistan to distinguish it from Russian Turkistan.

Tekesi is a unique and fascinating city with no traffic lights and traffic jams and is located 120 kilometers away from the Yining city, the administrative center of the Ili region. It is renowned for its octagonal city layout that is designed in the shape of a Bagua (八卦), which refers to the eight trigrams from Chinese Taoist cosmology. This design makes the city an attraction in itself and is believed to bring harmony and balance according to Taoist principles. The layout was initially proposed in the 1930s and was inspired by ancient Chinese philosophy and fengshui principles. The overall shape of Tekes Bagua City is nearly circular, with a square park at the center and eight streets radiating from the center. Based on their locations, the eight streets are named Qian Street, Dui Street, Kun Street, Li Street, Xun Street, Zhen Street, Gen Street, and Kan Street according to the directions of the Bagua. Now it is the time to visit Tianquan temple. The water drop is frozen and you can enjoy a different view.

There is an ancient temple abandoned for thousands of years, which is named “Dishuiyan” Temple in the west of Beijing. It was a famous tourist attraction in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. According to historical records, the temple was first built in the Ming Dynasty and was initially named "Great Mercy Nunnies" before being renamed "Tianquan Temple" during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty.

Due to the steep topography, it happened to be concave under the rock for nearly 5 meters, with a height of more than 30 meters on the cliff wall oozing thousands of years of spring water, hence the name "dripping Rock". In winter, drops of water form icicles more than ten feet high, with different forms.

The main hall of Tianquan Temple enshrines Shakyamuni Buddha, and the murals inside depict the 18 Arhat drawings, which are vivid. There is a sacred tree in front of the temple, it is a thousand years old sandalwood, it is very valuable.

We are happy to offer this incredible trip regularly. It is the fifth time we've organized the trip. Not only we improve entertaiment items such as sand skiing, ride a camel, enjoy flying a Kongming lantern and campfire party in the endless desert, also we have upgraded accommodation and have a storng logistical support to keep everyone can finish the trip. You have enough water, food supply. Don't hesitate to join the trip with us. :))

For this year, we will stop at Helan mountain to have a short visiting Ming Dynasty GreatWall.

Tengger Desert, also called Tenggeli Desert in Chinese, is located in southwestern Alxa Left Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It borders the Gansu Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Tengger Desert is 240 kilometers (149 miles) from north to south, and 160 kilometers (99 miles) from east to west, making it the fourth largest desert in China with a size of 43,000 square kilometers (16,602 sq miles). Sand dunes cover 71 percent of this area, accompanied by several inner lakes, flatlands, grasslands and hills. At first glance, this large-scale desert seems to extend to reach the blue sky.

Swan Lake Viewing

Swan Lake is the most famous one among all the inner lakes of the Tengger Desert. Along the lake shore are many sand jujube trees. The best time to visit Swan Lake is March to May. Many swans roost and play here in late March and early April; at the same time visitors can enjoy flourishing Malan flowers.

Moon Lake Sightseeing

Another attractive scenic area is Moon Lake, around 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Swan Lake. It is a favorable desert adventure camp site. Surprisingly, half of the lake is fresh water, and another part is salty water. The shape of Moon Lake is similar to that of a map of China.

Lighting a Kongming lantern to make a small wish, let it fly in the vast desert.

A moderately difficult hike that follows a line of wild wall up to a tall tower with 360° views of mountains, valleys, small villages, and a long line of wall heading high into the hills. Some sections extremely tricky underfoot.

We start the hike not far from Chenjiapu Village, taking a short walk up a concrete road before turning off on to a dirt track that leads up a valley towards the Great Wall.

The valley is narrow to begin with, and slowly opens up to give views of Great Wall and towers on a high ridgeline.

At the top of the valley we’ll find the Great Wall, with two mostly-intact towers sited to guard a pass at a dip in the mountains.

We’ll be headed north from the dip, following a rough line of ‘wild’ Great Wall through the two towers and up to the local “General’s Tower”.

At an elevation of 1,040m, the General’s Tower has superb views of all the Great Wall in the area.

To the east we’ll be able to spot the eastern side of the Stone Valley Great Wall and possibly parts of the Badaling Ancient Great Wall; to the south we’ll see the higher parts of this line Great Wall, and, if it’s a clear day, the High Tower on a faraway peak.

Cost: ¥420 / ¥380 for members
