New Openings: 3rd Cellar

The team behind whiskey bars Ichikura and er have created another relaxed, classy venue. It’s a change of pace, offering refreshment in the form of less-stiff yet widely loved members of the noble alcohol family tree: beer (RMB 35-60), grape wine (RMB 140-300/bottle), sake, and Shaoxing jiu (cocktails RMB 45).

The joint’s somber blackwashed walls, sleek lighting and jazz soundtrack set a civilized tone, much like older sibling and downstairs neighbor Ichikura. Friendly service and reasonable prices round out the atmosphere, perfect for an after-work quaff. “An expensive bottle of wine is great for your wedding or 15th anniversary with your wife,” explains Mr. Takayuki, the empire’s CEO. “But for regular drinking, you need good wines that you can afford.” A food menu further enhances the experience.
