Capital Bites: Burrito Killers and Pancake Tossers
At 8pm this Sunday, The Boat will stage Beijing’s inaugural St Valentine’s Day Burrito Eating Massacre. RMB 100 buys you entry into the contest where you compete for a big cash prize to down the most quarter pounder burritos. Said Mexican snacks are provided by Tommy Gun’s, a Beijing based burrito maker who sells in over 35 locations around town. All guests get free burrito samples and a drink with their RMB 40 entry ticket.
There's more competitive food shenanigans, this time at the Hilton, and the Great Hilton Beijing Pancake Race 2010 on February 16th. You can either join the fun or simply watch as contestants race around an obstacle course in the Hilton’s lobby to be crowned Hilton Beijing's Champion "Tosser". Free drinks available to all, plus free entry to the Zeta Bar official pancake after-party.
Over at 1949 – The Hidden City in Sanlitun, the space formerly occupied by coffee and cake specialists Sugar Bar will reopen as Toro Bar on April 1st. It’ll be a casual Japanese restaurant serving sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki.
In other news, recent closures include Budapest and Adanali Doner House at China View (it has reopened as Dalyan Turkish Restaurant). And Blue Frog now serves breakfast during the week - everything from steak and eggs to French toast.
