Calling all Photographers! Rub Shoulders with the Experts

In a great opportunity for aspiring photographers, Caochangdi PhotoSpring has put out a call for submissions to Photofolio Review, an event giving up-and-comers the chance to discuss their work with a group of expert practitioners, curators and gallery owners.

Caochangdi PhotoSpring is a major photography festival taking place this April, involving many galleries in the Caochangdi area hosting various exhibitions and events, including the Photofolio Review. One of the organizers, Sophie Sauton, told theBeijinger.com: “Photographers need to submit 10 works, which they can send by email (high res) or via mail. We don't expect special subjects – we just advise photographers to show the most representative of their works.”

If selected, photographers will have the opportunity on April 19 and 20 to meet with experts for “exchange, dialogue and constructive criticism that should be seen as a fruitful experience through which you can improve your work.”

The Photofolio Review website states: “Laureates of the event will also have an exhibition of their work and publication in Modern Weekly magazine.”

Check out the Photofolio Review website for details of where to submit your work and the expert panel.

And stay tuned to the Beijinger blog for coverage of the forthcoming Caochangdi PhotoSpring.

Hello cvrcftcvrcft,
they could of course set up their own exhibition, but Three Shadows is giving them another opportunity. The reviewers are internationally well-known figures from the world of photography, including academics, writers and gallery curators, so I would respect their opinions. I am probably also the least qualified person invited as reviewer, so I don`t intend to do much criticism, but am looking for emerging photographers with interesting work to show in my gallery in Tokyo. So for the participants it could be 500 kuai very well spent.

thanks for the article Dan.

HI cvrcftcvrcft,

If you knew what you were talking about you would realize the Caochangdi PhotoSpring is being organized by some highly reputable members of Beijing's arts community who have put a lot of their time, effort and resources into building the arts here against considerable odds.

No-one is being "paid off" and your implication that I was bribed in some way to write the above post is highly insulting. I ran this post because I thought it would be of interest to our readers. If you don't want to participate or you think the program is flawed, that's fine - but please refrain from making public accusations that are totally unfounded.

500 kuai submission fee?

for a shot at winning the chance to be criticized by 'real photographers'?

why dont the interested contestants just pool their 500 kuais, find a cafe/space around gulou that could use a serious shot of foot traffic, have our own event, pay you off for a beijinger blog 'news' article, and still have enough money left over to buy you a couple rounds of jagermeister
