Miss Saigon Comes to Sanlitun (the bar, not the musical)

Zhongyu Hanging Garden needed a new name and a new look. So why did they take their cue from a prostitution-themed Broadway show?

The redesigned interior bar fails to impress – staring directly at the disco ball may result in permanent retinal damage, so don’t linger. Instead, check out the seventh-floor terrace, a backyard paradise of exotic plants and wooden benches situated among ridges and ponds.

Drinks are fairly priced and superbly mixed – try the raspberry daiquiris and strawberry margaritas (RMB 40). The classic mojito (RMB 45) is made with mint leaves picked from the bar’s own terrace garden. Experienced drinkers should try the “Kim” and “Chris” (RMB 58 each), a pair of heady cocktails named after Miss Saigon’s protagonists.

Unlike the musical, this Miss Saigon is no tragedy – as long as the terrace remains the main act.

Good for: Summer evenings, tree huggers
Also try: Yin Bar, Q Bar
