Talking Pints: New Year Preview, Helen Feng DJs at School, Pomme O'Shea's, Grinders Happy Hour
Out with the Tiger, in with the Rabbit and all that ... We'll have more new year parties for you early next week, but here's a bit of what's on for the coming of he Year of the Rabbit.
Possibly the tallest DJ in the world, Stretch Armstrong plays at Punk on February 2 just as the city will be going fireworks mad (free before 11pm, RMB 50 after that). Also on February 2, The House kicks off six consecutive, potentially non-stop days of New Year partying with Acupuncture DJs playing upstairs and downstairs, and free dumplings for everyone who's still around at 3am (free entry). Meanwhile, Q Bar's bartenders will be making rabbit-themed cocktails to bring in the new year. What's a rabbit-themed cocktail? Good question ... Finally, Paddy O'Shea's will have two-for-one on Bloody Marys all day throughout the Chinese New Year holiday.
Next up, a very quick announcement: Grinders has launched its happy hour, with two-for-one on beers, glasses of wine, cider and highballs from 3-7pm every day.
Back to tonight (Thursday, Jan 27) and former Pet Conspiracy frontwoman and sometime spokesperson for all things musical in Beijing, Helen Feng, DJs at School Thursday night to launch FakeMusicMedia's website (www.fakemusicmedia.com). She'll be playing punk, indie, electro and more, with support from Matt Modny and Pinie Wang. The party's free and starts at 9pm. It's also reggae night at Q Bar. And out at The Green Cap, new chef Bill Marrett will be serving free finger food for everyone taking part in the bar's Thursday quiz night.
Out in Shunyi, The Pomegranate reopens under its new name, Pomme O'Shea's, on Friday night. A free keg of beer will be cracked open at 6pm, with a spot of food and some live music. If nothing else, there'll be plenty of craic.
Back in town on Friday night, Ludo V guests at The House's monthly We Play House party (free entry), while School has WHALE!, a Chinese New Year party featuring rock, indie and electro from a bunch of DJs. On Lucky Street, Yue has a RMB 100 all-you-can-drink ladies' night, while Bling kicks off a two-night new year party on Friday with qipao dress code, lion dances and drinks deals on both Friday and Saturday (free entry both nights).
Down at The House on Saturday, electronic scene stalwart Ou Yang guests (free entry), Scarlett in Hotel G hosts a samba-themed party with buy-one-get-one-free cocktails, and Section 6 brings hip-hop to Yugong Yishan for their monthly party.
That's it. Now please don't play with fireworks. They scare dogs. And nightlife editors.

Is Billy the fat one who likes to get his baseball bat out from behind the bar? Or one of the dumb kids who jump into the crowd to fight then go back to serving drinks? Those kids really are dumb.

Come to School nightclub. Free beating for laowais. Soon with free white female gropping and racist hatred.
This place is tied to about 5 beatings of foreigners. What about reading the explanation given by the manager in the forum?
"Hello everyone, this is Billy from school, one of the owner.
Recently there has been alot of bad things being said about School. The American Embassy also issued a warning to foreigners in Beijing to stay away from bars. There are a few things I'd like to say: I've been at School almost every time there has been a fight involving foreigners. These are the times I remember:
The first time - A guy that was already drunk wanted to buy another drink, and gave the bartender a fake 100rmb bill. After the bartender refused to accept the money, the guy gave him the middle finger and told him to f*** you.
The second time - Once again, another drunk guy, and also very obviously on drugs. Originally we did not want to welcome him into the bar for these reasons, but we eventually allowed him to enter in hopes that he would not cause any trouble. Only a half hour later, he put his hands on the backside of one of the staff members girlfriends.
The third time - 2 German guys that nobody knew came to School. At first they were really friendly and talked with alot of the regular people at School, but after a few beers, one of them said, "you Chinese and American people are all dog sh*t, inferior races." At the same time, he also raised his right hand to salute the friends of School, ala Adolf Hitler.
The fourth time - Once again a guy who had drank way too much. Beginning by insulting the Chines rock n roll scene (he probably didn't know School has a background with the rock scene and different bands), he went on to curse all Chinese people, making frequent use of the F-word.
All these occurrences should not have ended in physical confrontations, and if we were more tolerant or didn't care about it, we could have just rubbed it off as joking around after drinking too much. Losing our composure resulted in negatively influencing everybody else's happy time. I'd like to once again apologize to all the other people that were present during these times.
In being on one of the two sides on the conflict itself, however, School refuses to apologize.
We have all always had so many non-Chinese friends, and after opening School have gained even more foreign friends. DJ's, travelers, punks, music lovers, regular people. We often have foreign friends who bring us gifts for the bar upon their return to Beijing. Many of the editors for City Weekend and The Beijinger are our friends and often come to School. Talk about drunk, we all know what is drunk and it is a very common thing means to a bar. We always give the drunk guys some special service such as a cup of warm water or a sofa can sleep to the morning. So, the above problems have nothing to do with race or people not being welcomed at School. We welcome people from anywhere in the world to come to School for fun, and together share in the beautiful experiences of music and life.
However, we only welcome friendly people. Any insults or any drunken behavior that negatively influences everybody else will not be tolerated at School. If you want us to respect you, then please respect us. Don't insult us, and don't create a bad atmosphere for all the people having a good time around you. We opened a bar, not a boxing hall. Even though School is small, it's a very happy place.
So, this is what I want to say, just for once. I welcome you all to come have a good time."

In my book, look like a whole confession. And TBJ: Don't advertise this ugly fascist den, because it make you some ,sort of an accessory to a crime.
Don't give money to this club.
