Bars & Restaurants Closed Today

In this ... well, sensitive climate, our hope is that restaurant owners and their staff are staying safe and will be able to return to business as usual soon. In the meantime, we also thought it'd be useful to let readers know which spots are or aren't open today (Tuesday Sep 18).

You've probably all heard about some of the closures on Sunday over at Lucky Street near the Japanese Embassy. If not, you can read more about it at the Global Times here.

Meanwhile, we called some of the main restaurants around town or took note of businesses in our neighborhoods that might have been affected in the last few days. Here's what we've found:

OPEN AS USUAL:
Nobu
Invincible Ramen (all locations)
Pekotan
Obentos
Hagaki, EAST Beijing

But of course, some restaurants, either out of respect for locals and/or to protect themselves and staff (both good reasons), are CLOSED FOR TODAY:
Hatsune (both locations closed, will open again tomorrow)
Yotsuba (unconfirmed but there's been no answer at either location)
Morio, Hotel G (closed for today, no details on reopening, call ahead to confirm)
Matsuko (all locations closed except at the Olympic village and in Yizhuang, will reopen tomorrow)
Chi Fushi Ramen
Four Seasons
Fu Lai Ting Ramen

We did the same for bars around town:

OPEN AS USUAL:
Twilight
Glen
Wain Wain
Entero (owner tells us business has been affected but they're open as usual)

CLOSED:
Mokihi
Maiden Voyage
Doron (will reopen tomorrow)

Again, we hope things will return to normal soon. Those restaurants and bars who are reopening tomorrow have been indicated, though we always recommend that you call before heading out.

Everyone, please stay safe out there, and of course if anyone else knows any pertinent information that needs adding, please leave a comment below.

Freedom fries, lest we not forget. Also that Falklands business. And from two nations with a free press...

Um...nope, not the same thing at all. Unless French people were being beaten in the streets and French factories vandalized nationwide. That's the point: free Western countries are capable of protesting without murdering people, attacking embassies and sodomizing ambassadors, destroying property, razing factories to the ground, forcing restaurants to close out of fear and keeping my friend's Japanese workmate away from the office for a week in terror for his own safety.

If you can't see the difference you are blind–hopefully through ignorance; probably through choice.

"Pathetic and ridiculous..." Yes.

"China needs to realize how stupid they are making themselves look..." Not in our lifetimes.

This goes deeper than logic or reason.

This whole thing is pathetic and ridiculous, the equivalent of a bunch of spoiled children crying because they gave up a toy and want it back when someone else plays with it.

Hatsune is owned by an AMERICAN and staffed by CHINESE people, I'm not sure about the other venues listed above but yesterday Yoshinoyas were closed too, again, these are CHINESE owned franchises. Chinese people are only hurting themselves. China needs to realize how stupid they are making themselves look by reacting in such a violent, immature and petty way.

I do love that Invincible Ramen is standing strong. Would just seem so wrong to see a restaurant claiming to be invincible listed in the closed category. Though I guess it's the ramen, not the restaurant, that's invincible. Perhaps a few other restaurants should lay in a supply of that Invincible Ramen.
