Talking Tunes: Our November of Nostalgia Gets Off To A Flying Start

There are a couple of big shows (and hairstyles) coming up that we've been looking forward to for a while. This weekend represents the first steps on our stroll down Memory Lane during the month of November.

It gets off with a bang tonight with Michael Bolton's performance at the 15th Annual Beijing Music Festival. The show is called "Back to the Future". Unfortunately you'll need a DeLorean to get the most out of tonight as the show clashes with another must-see over at Yugong Yishan when Mike Portnoy's super group PSMS (Portnoy, Sheehan [Billy, formerly of Mr. Big], Macalpine [Tony, formerly of M.A.R.S, CAB and Ring of Fire], and Sherinian [Derek, formerly of Dream Theater and Planet X] hit Gulou.

Then on Sunday night, cabbies' favourite Kenny G thrills the MasterCard Centre (all 18,00 seats of it!) with his distinctive brand of soprano sax.

Of a slightly more modern bent, UK electro rock outfit Kyte have announced their intention to play MAO Livehouse on November 17 in promotion of their new record "Love To Be Lost". Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Another snippet we got this week is that Pairs will play XP on December 1. Supported by Residence A, Gumbleed and Baby Formula, the Shanghai punksters make Beijing as they push their newest release "If This Cockroach Doesn’t Die, I Will".

Another show to look out for this weekend sees Glow Curve and The Dyne play experimental den XP tomorrow night.

In recognition of PSMS bassist Billy Sheehan's former life as bassist for US rock legends Mr. Big, here's their hit single "Be With You". It was out of this and Michael Bolton's "Time, Love and Tenderness" for what would play us out. I stand by my choice.

Have a cracking weekend.
