Talking Entertainment: Your Weekend Guide to the Arts
Before we get to this weekend’s events, Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves has been spotted strolling around town. The star of The Matrix was sniffed out in Sanlitun by our friends at Time Out and they suspect he’s here working on his directorial debut, Man of Tai Chi. The film, set in Beijing, explores the difficult decisions a talented Kung Fu fighter must face and stars Tiger Chen, a stuntman from Sichuan who trained Reeves in The Matrix.
In other news, The Bookworm Literary Festival tickets went on sale today. The festival, which takes place every year in March, will be bringing in acclaimed authors including Lionel Shriver. Get your tickets at the Bookworm before they’re all gone.
Here are the arts and culture events happening this weekend:
The NCPA has a good weekend in store. On Friday their production of Les Contes d´Hoffmann hits the stage with tales of a man's many lovers. On Saturday, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will hold a chamber concert and on Sunday the whole orchestra performs with genius conductor, Lorin Maazel at the helm .
In cinema, Modernista will begin screening their Chinese New Year feast series with Stephen Chow’s hilarious classic ,The God of Cookery on Sunday (The comedian was recently the butt of a number of jokes himself). And Dada is playing Romper Stomper, which stars a young Russell Crow as a skinhead.
Finally, for a little nostalgia, "Marilyn Forever," a traveling exhibition by Chopard reveals never-before-seen photos of the star who died 50 years ago. The exhibition, which was originally launched at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, opens in Beijing on Monday at the Chopard Parkview Green boutique.
Below are some photos of Keanu and Tiger in Beijing back in 2010. See if you can spot the two actors this year.
