Talking Tunes: A Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Wye Oak and Graveworm
We're very excited by some of the confirmations we got this week. Mostly the fact that it seems Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner is going to be stopping by. It's not clear in what capacity just yet, but we're reliably informed he'll be here at some point in May. Confirmations to follow.
Also coming out are Wye Oak. If you're a fan us US TV dramas, you may have heard their track "Civilian" (above) as it was used in no fewer than four of them. Most notably in zombie drama, The Walking Dead. Anyway, no one-trick ponies are they. Their album of the same name is pretty darn good and I'd encourage you to give it a listen, and then get tickets to see them in the flesh come May. Flesh, Walking Dead, Zombies? Excellent.
Those lucky devils down south; now they have Smashing Pumpkins heading their way on August 13. They can already look forward to shows from Blur and Sigur Ros in May.
We got a glimpse at the lineup for Midi festival a couple of days ago. We're under strict instructions to not let the cat out of the bag until all the tourist visas are approved lest we risk the ire of the organizers, so we won't for now. We can say it's a healthy looking lineup with a few familiar faces and a few more foreign ones, and that we'll let you know it in full as soon as we get the nod.
Coming up in the next week:
- Italian metalheads Graveworm will appear at Yugong Yishan this Friday (Mar 29) (contrary to what you might have mistakenly read in our March issue, apologies)
- PiL perform at Yugong Yishan on Saturday in a hotly-anticipated show. We spoke to Johnny Rotten earlier this week. Check that out here.
- Sound of the Xity gets underway, with a show from Oshi, Whai, Junglemico Project and Longshendao. at Yugong Yishan on Wednesday (Apr 3).
Playing us out this week is Nick Zinner with arguably some of his finest work, "Turn Into" by Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs.
