Breaking News: Japandroids and Shabazz Palaces to Play Beijing

Japandroids track "The House That Heaven Built" from their critically-acclaimed album Celebration Rock

Well, almost breaking news, anyway, and it deserves a bit more fanfare ... We've been getting a lot of cool music through our little old town recently, and thanks to Split Works that trend is set to continue:

"We have two more concert announcements from Split Works: Shabazz Palaces and Japandroids.

"Shabazz Palaces [...] is the first hip-hop group to sign to legendary indie label Sub Pop and thus far, the only musical winners of The Stranger's Genius Awards. Catch them in Shanghai on June 28 and Beijing on June 29.

"Japandroids are a 'maximal' two-piece rawk band consisting of Brian King and David Prowse [...] They play Beijing on August 23 and Shanghai on the 24th."

We were disappointed to miss out on Japandroids when they were in Asia for a short jaunt earlier this year, and the Japandroids official website says the Beijing show will be at MAO Livehouse. They're last album Celebration Rock garnered positive reviews from music press when it dropped last year and bundled its way onto many Top Album of the Year lists.

Shabazz Palaces is a hip-hop collective from Seattle, Washington whose debut album Black Up received much critical acclaim, too.

mdev,

Quite right. Thanks for pointing that out.

I'm very excited (perhaps overly) for the show, but toyed with the idea of changing the title to (Almost) Breaking News: ... in the end I just left it. I'm sure it will be news to folks who don't get the Split Works newsletter.

Cheers,
