We're Rich! Beijing Home to Largest Number of China's Wealthy
Although our southern rivals Shanghai and Shenzhen regularly vie for the title of the Chinese city with the greatest per capita income, Beijing can lay claim to a different crown: having the highest number of wealthy people of any city in the country.
Defined as having assets of RMB 10 million or more, Beijing has 184,000 people who qualify, 5,000 more than last year's survey and 17.5 percent of the total in China, according to the GroupM Knowledge-Hurun Wealth Report. Beijing also led with the greatest number of residents whose wealth reached or exceeded RMB 100 million, the survey said.
Wealth for the purposes of the survey includes residences, investment assets, shares in non-listed companies, and art collections, the report said.
Finishing in second place was Guangdong province (ha! the whole province), followed by Shanghai. We snicker in their general direction as we congratulate ourselves on the wealth enjoyed by that guy we saw from the bus this morning driving his Aston Martin. Beijing pride!
