Gold Dust: A Very Quick Word with Goldie

Whether it's starring in the movies, appearing on reality TV shows, exhibiting his art collection, participating in TV ballroom dance contests or, of course, releasing genre-defining music, UK-based drum & bass doyen Goldie is a busy man. So it came as little surprise that he afforded us just a few breaths to answer some questions in anticipation of his show at Dada this coming Friday (Dec 20).

What is one thing that you'll never get used to in China?
The crazy cab drivers!

Do you think you'll ever retire from the public eye?
First and foremost, I live to create my art, and if people are interested in me, then great, if not, I'm just as happy.

What is one song or artist that we wouldn't expect you to be into?
Pat Metheny is my musical hero.

What's your favourite yoga pose?
Standing-Head-To-Knee.

Do you think there's a potential market for grills in China?
Sure, why not? The Russians have always shown an interest.

Why is your new album named The Alchemist?
alchemy ˈalkɪmi/ noun
1. the medieval forerunner of chemistry, concerned with the transmutation of matter, in particular with attempts to convert base metals into gold or find a universal elixir.

Tell us one thing that you're really looking forward to doing in the not-too-distant-future.
Performing in an upcoming play called Jamaica in London next March-April 2014.

Do you like Christmas? What are you doing for it this year?
I love it. We will be in Bangkok with our close friends and family.

What was the best Christmas present you ever received?
My wonderful wife, Mika. We were married on Christmas Day.

If you could be another Bond character, apart from Bullion, who would it be?
The man himself, 007.

Are there any other film franchises you'd like to be a part of?
Toy Story or Lord of the Rings!
