Capital Bites: A New Bakery and Moka Bros.' New Breakfast Menu
Welcome to Year of the Horse, and I hope you ate all the dumplings in the world. Things are quiet in Beijing figuratively speaking (though fireworks are making up for this), but nevertheless there is still a smattering of notes of interest from the dining scene.
Starting February 15, Nali Patio's Moka Bros will be launching breakfast service daily from 8am. They will be offering a selection of Western and Chinese options such as yogurt with granola (Yoghurt Bro'nola) and breakfast porridge (Hot Joe) in addition to their signature smoothies.
In Taikoo Li South, Karaiya Spice House is currently closed (not just for Chinese New Year) as they are moving locations within Taikoo Li and are scheduled to reopen in about a month or so.
Much in the trend of businesses like Sweet Tooth Cafe, Tavalin Bagels, Two Guys and a Pie and Home Plate Bar-B-Que, (now) formerly delivery-only bakery Pantry's Best has opened a store front just north of Ritan Park at 39 Shenlu Jie. I've had some excellent pies from them over the past few years and am looking forward to browsing the products in person. Who knows, maybe they'll even do some end-of-the-day daily discounts. One can hope ...
Pizza options in Gulou are limited to say the least (Mao Mao Chong and ...?) but they just expanded this week with the introduction of a new pizza menu at 4corners.
Finally, if all the holiday excesses have built up and you're into the idea of a detox, Juice by Melissa is offering ten percent off any of their juice cleanses starting after the holiday when they reopen February 6. Use discount code #CleanseCNYaway. Also of note? Keep an eye out for their new store front coming 2014 near Great Leap Brewpub near Xingfucun Zhonglu.
