Didi and Ele.me to Work Together on UberEATS-Style Delivery Service

Chinese media iFeng reported earlier this week that China's largest ride-hailing service Didi Dache and China's largest O2O food delivery service Ele.me have reached an agreement on a strategic investment program (the financial details of which have yet to be released) that will see them launch a food delivery service using both two- and four-wheeled vehicles. According to iFeng, the service is being trialed in Beijing and may launch in December. 

Technode compared the planned partnership to Uber's UberEATs, which allows customers to order food delivery through the Uber app interface. UberEATS currently operates in 10 US cities, Paris, and Toronto. Uber have experimented with limited-edition food delivery promotions in Beijing, but have yet to roll out UberEATS in China. 

Considering the ubiquity of two-wheeled delivery drivers in Beijing and their ability to maneuver past our city's famous traffic we're not really sure about the appeal of a four-wheeled food delivery service, but since details of the partnership are still scant, we'll reserve judgement for now.
