Resistance is Futile!: You Shall Go to this Massive Star Trek Exhibition at The Place

Get ready to boldly go where no Beijinger has gone before. This weekend The Place will be beaming up the geekiest of local sci-fi fans for our city’s first ever Star Trek exhibition.

The exhibit  put on Beijing Weying Technology Ltd. and the official Star Trek: The Exhibition China Tour  is dedicated to the popular futuristic franchise’s 50th anniversary. It will host its opening ceremony on Saturday, December 12 from 3-5pm at The Place.

The massive, intergalactic setup features arches and corridors resembling the engine room of the Starship Enterprise, along with sprawling posters and storyboards from the franchise’s numerous films and television series. It also boasts displays showcasing props like deadly phaser pistols, flip-phone-esque communicators, fuzzy alien tribble creatures, and a replica of Lt. Uhura’s famously leggy uniform. But the one item that will leave Trekkers swooning above all else is a giant Starship Enterprise replica, measuring more than 10 meters in length. The huge exhibit covers an area of 1,500 square meters, making it an ideal haven for nerds to snap selfies posing next to their favorite deep space props while flashing the Vulcan "live long and prosper" hand gesture.

This Beijing juncture is the first stop of the official Star Trek: The Exhibition China Tour. The traveling exhibit was previously featured in numerous locales like Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Taipei and attracted a total of 5.5 million visitors. The Place will host the Star Trek exhibit until February 22, 2016, and from there it will move on to Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. But before the exhibition departs from Beijing at warp speed to visit other Chinese frontiers, its organizers will host other events at The Place such as seminars, Trek-themed lectures, a sci-fi Christmas cosplay party, and several family-friendly kids' competitions, which are sure to make Beijing feel like the final frontier.
