Events Watch: Beijing's Best Weekday Events That Won't Leave You Hungover
The weekend is behind us, yet again, and unless you've already got plans to go out and celebrate July 4 tonight, you may be wondering what to do with yourself. Fear not, we've gathered some of the best events in the city that'll either teach you something, aid in networking, or keep you entertained and (relatively) sober, for a productive and sociable week.
Monday, July 4 (onwards)
Stomp (pictured at the top)
This wildly successful, offbeat percussion show has been touring the globe for 24 years now, playing over 20 thousand performances to more than 12 million people in 53 countries on six continents. Subnormalz Stand-Up Comedy Open Mic Night
Subnormalz Comedy Club presents Open Mic Stand-up Comedy on Tuesdays at Paddy O'Shea's, with old school Mancunian Gary Betney hosting this week's event. See at least 10 of Beijing's best comedians performing stand-up comedy, and four minutes of stage time is yours if you have the guts! Open Mic Music hosted by Justin Richardson of NZT band will launch directly after the jokesters finish their bits. British Chamber Summer Garden Party
This year’s British Chamber Summer Party will be one of the highlights of Beijing's summer social calendar. A classic British garden party at the British Ambassador's Residence, the evening will feature a barbecue, Pimm’s and summer cocktails on the lawn, along with live music in the company of Chamber members, friends and partners. 5pm. Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra
A special one-night-only performance by Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Barock Orchestra. Koopman founded the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1979. The group consists of internationally renowned baroque specialists who meet up several times a year and work together to prepare and perform new exciting programs. For the musicians each concert is a new experience, and Koopman's boundless energy and enthusiasm are a sure guarantee the highest quality. 7.30pm. RMB 100-580. Healthy Living Series: Nutrition Panel and a Summer Dinner
Join the Beijing Women's Network's Healthy Living Series next week at GLO Kitchen and Fitness for a summer dinner and a discussion on Eastern and Western approaches to eating well in Beijing. This intimate event will include a presentation from Dr. Debbie Ma, who holds a PhD in Chinese Medicine. She will review the importance of seasonal eating, and teach us about the nutritional benefits and flavors of the wide variety of vegetables that can be found in local markets. We will also learn how to make homemade ginger ale, discuss ways to ward off summer colds, and address digestion problems. Women in Leadership: Mentor Walks Asia (Beijing)
Mentor Walks Asia in Beijing brings together established and emerging women leaders in the community for a morning walk to discuss professional and personal successes, challenges, and aspirations. They aim to provide women in the workplace a platform to share their experience and help them progress in their careers. The British Chamber will host the Friday, July 8 walk in Ritan Park near Chaoyangmen. 7.45am. Free. Ritan Park
