The Rug's New Heartwarming Winter Menu: Eggs Benedict Croquette, Hashbrowns, Desserts, and Winter Drinks

We know it’s only been one month since the last time we found ourselves digging in at Chat Room by the Rug, but that's because The Rug team have never been guilty of resting on their laurels and always have something new up their sleeve. Even the ongoing renovations at their Chaoyang location have not stopped them from updating their Sanlitun menu.

For winter, and inspired by recent trips to the UK, America, Japan, and Australia, The Rug have added several dishes to their new menu. We opted for the crispy chicken skin salad (RMB 58), made up of mixed seasonal veggies, baked cherry tomatoes, grilled chicken, organic egg, and parmesan cheese. We loved the inspiration behind this dish; the crispy skin is made the same way as Peking duck, adding that extra crunch among the greens.

The organic chestnut soup (RMB 38) was particularly belly-warming, with additional texture from the crunchy bacon. As a lover of chestnuts, I was happy to learn about the secret to this recipe: “the chestnuts come from an organic chestnut farm in Huairou, where ancient chestnut trees have been located and growing organically for over 500 years,” co-founder Elin Hung explained.

One of our favorites was probably the smoked salmon eggs benedict croquette with beetroot marinade (RMB 98), which features eggs placed on croquettes instead of an English muffin, the smoked salmon balancing the flavor of the preserved beetroot and homemade hollandaise sauce.

We also enjoyed the rolling stone hashbrowns (RMB 85), which uses bacon to wrap a poached egg inside a whole avocado, which sits on a potato cake, and is drizzled with a sweet and sour sauce.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, The Rug has also added several new desserts to their menu, for example, chestnut pink mont blanc (RMB 58), made of whole chestnuts and a raspberry-flavored meringue. We also enjoyed the carnival funnel cake (RMB 58), the sourness of the fresh berries and passion fruit working well alongside a dose of honey and ice cream.

Vegetarians need not feel left out, as they have also launched a dozen dishes for vegetarians, including an avocado salad, veggie pot, spiced cauliflower, stir-fried mushroom pot, quinoa tofu mushroom eggs benedict, shakshuka, veggie burger, pizza, and french toast.

Finally, did we mention their mulled wine comes served in a massive clay pot, and is freshly mixed every day. If you're not into wine, they also have brown sugar lattes as well as craft beers from Firestone and Harviestoun.

It the kind of touches above that make us really appreciate the effort that The Rug constantly puts into their foodie innovation, which always has us coming back for more.
