Limousine, Shanghai's "Most Outstanding" Band to Make Beijing Debut at Temple Tonight, Nov 25
Winning the title of "best band of the year" is no easy feat. But after that, the real work begins, striving to live up to that title. Such is the case for Colin Mosher and his bandmates in the Shanghai rock act Limousine, who were awarded top honors for an expat band at the City Weekend Readers' Choice awards in 2016. Below, the Canadian bassist and vocalist tells us more about how they won that award, how Shanghai's rock scene compares to Beijing's, and more ahead of Limousine's debut in the capital at Temple Bar on Nov 25.
So the City Weekend "Best Band of the Year" blurb mentions Limousine is known for its rowdy live shows. What was the rowdiest moment you guys have had onstage?
(Laughs) Great question! With so many shows there have been a lot of crazy times. I do recall a Mao Livehouse pillow fight gig. Some people from the crowd were jumping on stage to dance with us. We invited a few up but it quickly got out of control, because we got bombarded by a flurry of pillows.
Who are your band's influences?
I think it’s just rock music in general, past and present. We try our best to give it our own flair. I’m personally a huge Foo Fighters fan. Dave Grohl is a true example of what rock is and he’s also a very genuine person.
Why call yourselves Limousine?
The name came from the idea that looks can be deceiving. A stretch limo showing up with a bit of class – open the door and inside there’s this non-stop, crazy party happening and all are welcome to join.
What do you think of the Shanghai music scene?
In Shanghai, I’d say the benefits are that bands are very supportive of each other. Everyone promotes shows and tries to create events to get people out. The only drawback I feel is when it comes to the bigger festivals. Some promoters tend to overlook the local hard-working acts who apply every year. I’ve noticed some changes in this regard. Hopefully, it will continue and more opportunities will arise for bands like us.
We've heard that Beijing's scene is somewhat better in regards to rock music compared to Shanghai.This is definitely music to our ears and, this being our first trip up, we are excited to experience it. We hope to make it a regular thing!

We’ve actually just started to record our next album and hopefully have it ready in early 2018.
