Beijing Restaurateurs: Donate a Table for a Good Cause at This Year’s Chi Fan for Charity
As the date for one of the year’s biggest foodie and goodwill events draws nearer, organizers for Chi Fan For Charity (CFFC) have ramped up their efforts to find restaurants that will host fundraisers for their worthy cause.
The annual fundraising event— which celebrates a decade of goodwill work this year, and for which popular Beijing restaurants host tables for ticket buying participants— will be held on Nov 10. Each participating restaurant is asked to host a table of 10 CFFC ticket buyers, serve them three courses, then donate that money to charity.
Preston Thomas, director of restaurants for this year’s CFFC, says “Restaurants are the fabric of this awesome city of Beijing,” before addressing such eateries directly: “You are the places that we love, our second homes. You keep us alive and you have our support. Now I'm asking you for one night.”
In Thomas's eyes, participating in the night offers restaurants a number of benefits. “You are giving back to the community and supporting under-privileged girls. That feels pretty damn good,” he says, before citing another reason: “You get to show Beijing foodies how amazing your food is, and show us what you are made of.”
Lastly, he says that partaking in CFFC is a great opportunity for exposure. “How much is your advertising budget? I'm sure costs a lot more than one table of 10 for one night,” Thomas points out.
Each year CFFC takes applications from different charities and then chooses one as the recipient of the raised funds. For 2018, the organization has Educating Girls of Rural China, a Mainland-based Canadian charity that has offered higher education opportunities to female rural Chinese students in need since 2005.
