Celebrating Ramadan in Beijing: Timings for 2019 and Caravan's Iftar Buffet
Ramadan, a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to the Islamic belief, is celebrated by Muslims throughout the world. It happens in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and falls between May 5 and Jun 4 this year. Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset, traditionally breaking their fast with dates as this believed to be part of the Prophet's message.
Below are the Ramadan meals (Sehar (morning meal) and Iftar (evening meal, literally break-fast)) and prayer times (Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha – three of the five daily prayers) for Beijing, according to Islamic Finder:
If you have Muslim colleagues, it is worth bearing in mind that they may be fasting during this period, when the longer days make it more challenging. As a courtesy, avoid offering them food or drink. Children are not generally expected to fast, but older students (aged around 14-15) may be fasting, and some younger children may start fasting from 9-10 depending on their parents’ beliefs and practices.
Every evening during Ramadan, Caravan hosts a Moroccan Iftar buffet from 7pm. While the buffet is designed for those breaking the fast during this holiday period, it is open to all, regardless of religious beliefs or observations. The buffet is RMB 100 for adults and RMB 60 for children under 12. Click here for all the details and to reserve a table in advance.
And with that, we wish Ramadan Mubarak to all our Muslim friends!
