Wudaokou Watch: "Beijing Has Made Me More Dedicated to My Goals"

Welcome to Wudaokou Watch, where we profile a different Beijing-based student from abroad each week to hear about their life in China's capital. You can read the whole series here.

My name is Adhish Ghimire (Aadi). I’m from Kathmandu, Nepal, and I am a student at Beijing Language and Culture University.

I think I’m a quite lucky person because I got the scholarship to come and study at one of Beijing’s most highly regarded universities, to learn about Chinese language and culture.

Beijing has given me so many good opportunities. I’ve got more friends from different parts of the world, with whom I can communicate in two major languages: English and Chinese. Besides, I’ve made connections with some Chinese hospitality companies where I work with them as a PR manager.

When I landed in Beijing for the very first time I didn’t even know how to say "你好" so you can imagine how that went. However, it was a good adventure.

I’ve been involved in Beijing nightlife since 2017 so I like to go to 798 Art District for good food and good vibes, it has a different energy. I also love to spend time in the hutongs, because it's the heart of Beijing, so I can learn so many interesting histories and stories there. I love the environment of Rodeo Connection Bar because I can connect with my friends, have a few drinks, and some good food.

Whenever I feel like I’m missing my home I talk with my friends and family, visit places which have good music and good vibes, or cook Nepali food.

I’m so blessed with this city and its lovable people. As I live in Wudaukou, I meet so many beautiful people from different backgrounds and cultures.

I once had this opportunity to be a part of a Chinese movie. The funniest part is I don’t even know the title of the movie.

Since coming to Beijing, I’m more dedicated to my goals, more confident, and I’m trying to shape myself to fulfill my responsibilities.

I believe that to succeed, we need to believe ourselves first, totally focus on what we’re doing. Don’t worry about losing something, if you lose your hope that means you’re losing yourself. Be happy and be nice to everyone, it gives you strength. Right now I’m totally focusing on my life and learning many different business ideas for the future.
