Booze News: CNY Happy Hour at Moka Bros, New Cocktail Menu at Union

Thirsty? Wet your whistle with Booze News, our wrap-up of the week's best bar deals, parties, drink concoctions, industry gossip, and more.

Chinese New Year happy hour at Moka Bros

If you're looking for a casual drink this Chinese New Year, look no further than Moka Bros who will run an all-day happy hour throughout the entire holiday, Feb 11-17. Head over to any of their locations to sip on cocktails, mocktails, wine, and Tsingtao, all for just RMB 35 each. Once you're a little buzzed, continue the party with Moka Bros' sister bar La Social's CNY drinks promotions and events, including 50 percent off all bottles of vodka on Feb 12, BOGOF drinks until 11pm on Feb 14, 50 percent off all Sipsip tequila (bottles, mixers, and shots) on Feb 15, and an extended happy hour until 10pm on Feb 16.

Tangerine party at Beersmith

To celebrate the launch of their new Tangerine Tango seasonal beer, Beersmith will throw a tangerine-themed party this Wednesday. Alongside their usual ladies' night, 5-9pm, revelers who arrive before 7pm will get free access to the tangerine party (or pay RMB 100 after, including one drink) and free frozen Beibingyang shots if dressed in orange. At 9pm, there'll also be a special performance from in-house band Soul Shake. While improbable, we like to think that they'll play an entire set dedicated to seminal Krautrock band Tangerine Dream...

New cocktail menu at Union and sake night at Superfly

Continuing on the journey along the old dusty tracks of China's ancient trade routes, Union has released the latest line in their Silk Road-inspired cocktails. This time, the bar travels to Mongolia, the Middle East, and Korea as represented by the bold and creative "Mongolian Cheese" (dark rum, Mongolian cheese, sugar, Angostura bitters, and a side of milk dates), the "Chickpea" (gin, Secco vermouth, mushrooms, hummus, sesame paste, pepper, olive oil, cucumber distillate, and a black sesame cracker on the side), and the "Korea Ginseng" (gin, Korean ginseng, Kopi vermouth, Chinato vermouth, Campari, coffee distillate, and a garnish of dry orange slices). Get the full details here.

Meanwhile, across the foyer on Fridays, The Opposite House's modern Sichuan restaurant Superfly is now offering 50 percent off all sakes 6pm to midnight.

Think while you drink with The Hutong

On Saturday, The Hutong returns with the latest installment of their Think 'n' Drink event. Part pub quiz, part cocktail class, part excuse to get day drunk, from 3pm onwards attendees will be put through their paces on all of the above with each of the six rounds of pub-style trivia spanning topics such as Chinese literature to sport to pop culture. Tickets are RMB 350 for non-members or RMB 300 for members. Sign up here.
