Live Music Institution Soi Baochao Closing Down Jan 1, Will Relocate

The owners of hutong-based live music venue and bar Soi Baochao have announced they will be closing up shop as of Jan 1.

In the announcement, the bar cited issues with COVID-19 lockdowns and complaints from neighbors leading to the decision to close and relocate. Incidentally, they've already found a new location – close to the old digs – that they say will be open in a month or so.

To end their 14 year tenure at the old Baochao Hutong location, though, Soi Baochao will be throwing a farewell party Dec 31, with an ultimate open bar happening all night long, during which everything left on the menu, on the shelves, and in the fridges will be up for grabs.

Plus, in order to fund renovations, soundproofing, and other expenses for the move, there’s a special fundraiser planned. All proceeds will be used towards sprucing up SOI 2.0, and those who give certain amounts will get money put into voucher accounts which can be used for tickets, drinks, food, merch, and space rental at the new venue.

Here are the details:

支付pay 500 可兑 vouch for 700

支付pay 1000 可兑 vouch for 1388

支付pay 2000 可兑 vouch for 2858

支付pay 3000 可兑 vouch for 4288

Anyone who gives RMB 1,000 or more is also entitled to free passes to the farewell party open bar.

I went here with 4 of my friends and my girlfriend on New Years eve. They wanted 300 rmb per person just to get inside. Before we paid the guy at the door said in English there is food availible inside included in the price. There was not...

When we wanted our Money back he started insulting us and swearing about our mothers in Chinese. As a local musician this place will never see me again. Worst service ever and just a cash grab. I really wanted to support the place on there last open day on new years eve. But the way we were treated was horrible!! I do not recommend this place to anyone if they are looking for a good time out with friends.
