3,500-year-old cypress tree in Beijing regains vitality: A 3,500-year-old cypress tree in Beijing's suburban Miyun District started to grow once again as young sprouts and fresh fruit start to pop up on the tree thanks to continued protection efforts, reports Xinhua News.
The cypress, about 11.5 meters in height with a trunk measuring about 8.2 meters wide, is believed to be the oldest tree in Beijing.
The First Phase of Subway Line 19 Enter Trial Operations: According to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transportation, four stations along Beijing Subway Line 19 Phase I, including Beitaipingzhuang, Ping'anli, Taipingqiao, and Jingfengmen, will enter trial operations today. So far, the total length of the city's subway syatem is 783 kilometers, 463 stations, including 74 transfer stations.
The first phase of Line 19 can run at a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
Beijing Set to hold 12th International Film Festival: The upcoming 12th Beijing International Film Festival is set to be held on Aug 13 and 20. Li Xuejian, one of the China's most prestigious actors, will serve as the jury president, according to China Daily.
A total of 1,450 movies, including 1,193 from 88 countries, have applied to compete for the Tiantan Award. There are currently 16 movies that have been shortlisted to contend for 10 entries of Tiantan Award, including in search of Lost Time and Song of Spring.
