Beijing is a happening city! Don't miss a thing with our weekend roundup of the latest news.

Fans and Cooling Systems Added Along Beijing Subway: With temperatures reaching around 40 C in recent days, Beijing’s transportation authority has gotten to work on attempting to keep passengers and station workers cool, according to Beijing Evening News. This includes the installation of ceiling fans on certain trains, especially elevated lines like the Batong Line, along with interior fans and new air resupply grilles.

Eclectic Tuanjiehu Market Transformed Into Supermarket and Community Center: A massive wet market and clothing market located just north of Tuanjiehu Park near the intersection of Tuanjiehu Lu and Taojiayuan Lu has recently gotten the first of three phases of upgrades, with its transformation into a new supermarket and community center, reports Chaoyang Tong.

Further plans for the complex directly behind the new supermarket include an entire new shopping area, which as of yet is still in the development phase, with the second phase slated for completion this October.

Beijing Continues Hotel Discounts at Suburban Spots: The city will be giving away discounts of up to 50 percent off for stays at suburban hotels and B&Bs throughout the month of August, according to Beijing Tourism. As we wrote earlier last month, the deals can be unlocked on the Qunar travel app and are relatively simple to redeem and use.

Serivces Trade Fair To Be Held at End of August: The 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTS) is slated to be held at Shougang Park and the China National Exhibition Center from Aug 31 to Sep 5 this year, reports 最爱大北京. This year’s expo will have a particular focus on a “green future” – which might explain the decision to use Shougang to host the event – and will feature a new environmental services exhibition to be held at the new section of the National Exhibition Center.
