New 'Za in the 'Jing: Pizzas to Try Around Town

As devout pizza enthusiasts who crave a slice at least once a week, we constantly scout for the latest pizza offerings in town. And there have been plenty of creative options to choose from recently, ranging from KFC's latest foray into pizza to Big Pizza's delectable array of ten new varieties.

KFC

Imagine our surprise when KFC, known for its fried chicken, unveiled its first-ever pizza with a distinct Chinese twist. Many American expats have noted that KFC's offerings in China differ significantly from those back home, and this pizza could certainly be classed as one of those unconventional creations. One variety showcases a dapanji-inspired pizza, which bears similarities to the dapanji-flavored burger that KFC previously introduced. Another variety features a mushroom and chicken sauce, inspired by the popular Chinese dish, 小鸡炖蘑菇 Xiǎo jī dùn mógū (stewed chicken with mushrooms).

Although referred to as "pizza," the dish closely resembles a taco, with a thin crust akin to a tortilla. Surprisingly, this take on pizza has garnered praise for its taste, despite its unconventional appearance.

Papa John's

Papa John's is going for a bigger pie, increasing their large pizza from 14 inches to 16, with a few new flavors to boot. To make things even more interesting, the restaurant is offering a generous 40 percent discount on this new 16-inch pizza. This means that, for a limited time, customers can enjoy a larger 16-inch pizza at a lower price than the 14-inch pizza.

Domino's

While Domino's may not be unveiling new flavors at the moment, they've once again gotten to changing up their pizza bases. This time, Domino's has incorporated a blend of mashed taro and oatmeal into their base, featuring taro sourced from Lipu, imbuing the pizza with authentic Guangxi flavors. Additionally, the classic pizza base combination of garlic butter and cheese remains a tempting option.
