Don’t Miss Music Legend Dave Carey’s Last Beijing Show
Come Dec 30, Beijing will say goodbye to a devoted member of its music scene, when Dave Carey will strum his guitar for one last time in the capital for all to hear.
The Irish expat, musician, and co-founder of nugget has formed several bands during his nine year stint in the capital, each of them growing to be a major part of the city – and China’s – melodious tapestry.
Here’s what Carey has to say, in his own words, on his time spent here and his final gig:
I’ve lived in China for nine years. Just in writing that I can feel the weight of it. Nine years, almost a decade, almost a third of my entire life…
Living here, existing in the sprawling megacity that is Beijing, has left indelible marks upon me. I’ve worked here, started several different bands, opened a cultural space that I was so very proud of, nursed a jianbing addiction, and fallen in love…
It has been in no way a smooth ride, as I’m sure is the case for anyone who finds themself here at one point in their life or another, but it has been an immensely meaningful one. There is still so much I love about China, its people, its culture, but the trials of life here have taken their toll on me, and so I’m preparing to set off for pastures new (and hopefully greener).
During the last few years I’ve played in several bands, but always separately. For this, my last show in Beijing, I’ve decided to throw caution to the wind and bring together my two favorite projects for one night only; gilded forest and lost memory machine!
We’ll be playing at Morning Glory, a brand new bar in the heart of the CBD with a (heated!) rooftop terrace offering stunning views of the urban jungle vista that surrounds it.
If we’ve become friends over these past few years, if you frequented nugget’s events, or if you’ve enjoyed any of the music I’ve released with gilded forest, lost memory machine, or Nocturnes, I’d love if you could come along so that we can be together for one last evening in Beijing.
Bye Bye Dave, Dave Carey’s final concert in Beijing, is happening on Saturday, Dec 30 at 9pm at Morning Glory. Tickets are RMB 60 pre-sale and RMB 80 at door. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased via the link here.
