Sweet 16: Juicy Burger Cup 2024 Moves on to Expert Panel

The votes are in from the second round of the 2024 Juicy Burger Cup, which has determined which burger spots have made it into the Sweet 16.

The second round saw 64 burger places battling it out to make it into the Sweet 16, which this year is the last round of public voting, with the decision now being in the hands of a panel of hand-selected burger judges.

The judges have the next 24 hours to meticulously rank the burgers in the Sweet 16 from #1 to #16. These ratings will then be calculated together to crown the 2024 Juicy Burger Cup Champion. If the judges are unfamiliar with a burger place they can choose to leave them off the list and not rank them.

So, just who are these judges? We chose our judges from a prospective panel of over 120 burger-lovers in Beijing. They were first analyzed for their knowledge of the local scene; we then selected a sub-set of them to incorporate a panel that would be broadly representative of our Beijing readership, including both Chinese and foreigners.

We also took preventative measures to stop these people from being lobbied directly by burger-makers and from abusing their positions as experts: none were informed officially that they had been chosen as expert panelists till the last minute, leaving no time for influence-peddling to occur.

Also, to try and keep things as fair as possible this year, both the judges and the Sweet 16 will remain anonymous to the public until we reveal the 2024 Juicy Burger Cup Champion this Thursday (Jun 13)!

Will the winner be a former champion or will a completely new burger spot take the crown? We for one can’t wait to see the verdict from our expert panel, so stay tuned for that!
