Following heat wave warnings raised by Beijing authorities (http://whlyj.beijing.gov.cn/zwgk/tzgg/202307/t20230706_3156275.html), and seeing temperatures reaching above 40 C this week, we have  decided to postpone Juicy Burger Fest 2023, an outdoor event, in order to prevent any potential health risks caused by heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.

We’re just over a week away from our first-ever Taco Fest and to get your mouths salivating here is a little sneak peek of just some of the vendors who'll be coming out (thus far).


On our quest to find the best tacos in town to serve at the fest, we searched far and wide to find not only traditional taco places but other vendors who serve tacos or even places that serve Chinese tacoesque creations. Thus, we’ve grouped our vendors into four different categories: Classic Taco Places, “Hidden” Taco Places, Exclusive to Taco Fest, and “Tacoesque” Places.


Let’s take a look at who we have for each category, but remember this is just a selection of who will be there, and next week we’ll be releasing a detailed list of all the vendors and what specific tacos they’ll be serving at Taco Fest.

From these taco stalwarts, you can expect everything from classic tacos like Al Pastor or Fish Tacos to more unusual fusion offerings and perhaps a few tacos crafted specially for the festival.

Spicy food lovers the time has come! Early bird tickets are now on sale for the Beijinger’s Hot and Spicy Festival 2023 at Fudi Apr 14-16!


You’ll want to get your tickets fast because these early bird tickets come with one of two special deals: for RMB 30 your ticket comes with a free limited edition Spicy Fest bandana; or for RMB 60 you’ll get the bandana plus an adorable limited edition Chew La La plushie. Indecisive? Tix will be available at the door for RMB 40 (but neither the bandana nor the Chew La La plushie are included).



What do we have in store?


As usual there will be spicy foods from dozens of vendors representing cuisines from around the world; booze and refreshments galore; live entertainment from bands, DJs and dancers; and of course our notoriously mouth-searing Chili Pepper Eating Contest.


We’ll also be proud to announce the debut of True Run Media’s newest hire, Chew La La, the pepper-chomping Chinese Tree Shrew who will serve as the official mascot of Hot & Spicy 2023.

Where is Fudi (Yaowa Lake Park)?


Fudi (Yaowa Lake Park) is located in Shuangjing, just south of Beijing’s CBD area. The festival will be taking place on the 4th floor rooftop so you can enjoy the warm spring weather while gulping down some spicy treats.

The time has arrived: Get ready to chow down on four – no, make that five – of Beijing's best pizzas, as it’s time for the Cheesy Pizza Cup Final Four!
 

Your voting in the Elite Eight has resulted in four brands receiving an automatic berth in the final taste off: Multi-year champions Gung Ho! and Pie Squared, alongside two relative newbies – the Fresh-off-The-Boat Joe's Pizza and 2020 newbie Forno. 
 

But to add to the taste-off fun, we're adding a fifth and final Mystery Pizza to the party, just to expand your taste buds!
 

From now on, this championship will be decided LIVE at our bar-style Cheesy Pizza Cup Final Taste-Off taking place THIS SATURDAY (Feb 11) at the LANNG Art Center at Langyuan Vintage!

 

All final four winners – plus a Mystery Pizza – will be at the Taste-Off.

Gung Ho!

 

These pizza makers from New Zealand have made a name for themselves since opening in 2010 thanks to some unconventional offerings – case in point: their Black Truffle pizza, topped with truffle sauce, truffle oil, and a whole lot of mushrooms, which they'll be showcasing at the Taste-Off this year. Gung Ho! has been named champion three times – in 2014, 2015, and 2018 – and they’re looking to bring home a fourth title this time around.

Pie Squared

 

Reigning Pizza Cup champion (and 2017 winner) Pie Squared sets itself apart from the competition with Detroit-style pizza, an offshoot of Sicilian-style pizza characterized by a thick doughy base and rectangular shape with cheese that’s crisped on the edges as well as a crunchy, caramelized, almost burned crust that gives way to soft gooey insides and tons of flavor. They'll be bringing their ever popular Motown Meatball with them this year, which comes topped with red sauce, melted cheese, homemade meatballs and caramelized red onions.

Joe’s Pizza

 

After making Shanghai their first international location outside New York in 2017, Joe’s Pizza finally arrived in Beijing in September 2022. They’ve been a hit since their arrival, as people can’t get enough of their big New York-style pies, pizza-by-the-slice, and inventive snacks. This popularity has propelled Joe’s into the finals, making for what could be a Cinderella Story for this year’s Cheesy Pizza Cup. Joe's will be keeping it as classic as it gets, bringing their pepperoni pizza for your consideration during the Final.

Forno

 

Another relative newbie in this year’s Final Four, but a familiar face in Pizza Cup since their opening in 2020, Forno brings rustic Roman-style pizza in pala to the table. Translating to “pizza of the paddle”, pizza in pala is traditionally rectangular and served on the long pizza peel used to put it in and take it out of the oven. Forno will be showcasing their Diavola pizza at the Taste-Off, featuring a light airy dough base topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, chili flakes, salame filino, and fresh basil.

But wait, there’s one more!

Just to keep your taste buds tantalized, we’ll be adding a final Mystery Pizza to the party, making for five pizzas to choose from!

All you have to do is try them all, decide on your favorite, and cast your vote for Beijing’s best pizza of 2023 live at our bar-style Cheesy Pizza Cup Final Taste-Off THIS SATURDAY (Feb 11) at LANNG Art Center!
 

 

Along with getting to try the Final Four pizzas in the Cheesy Pizza Cup -- plus a mystery pizza -- there will also be a Beer Challenge where you can win a boozy prize, and during each session there will be a live DJ set. 

Did someone say prize? Yes! There will be a super fun Beer Challenge and the winner will receive a whopping 24 can case of beer from SLOWBOAT BREWERY. 

So how exactly does this Beer Challenge work? 

Well, first you’ll need to find yourself a drinking partner. You and your partner will then be kitted out in some of Beijing’s most fashionable rain ponchos and then blindfolded. Each of you will be handed a beer and then you’ll have one minute to feed each other as much beer as possible while also trying to spill as little beer as possible. The couple who manage to drink the most beer and spill the least, will be declared the winners! 

Along with the Beer Challenge we will also be setting up a giant pizza sticker which you can toss “toppings” at – why not compete with your friends and see who can get their topping closest to the center?

During each of the four Cheesy Pizza Cup Final Taste-Off sessions there will also be live DJ sets brought to you by BAJA GLITTER. Founded in 2018 by Eric Lee, BAJA GLITTER is a collaboration of different artists who all share the same love for easy dance music. They play a mix of Funk, Jazz, Electric, Disco, Soul, House and Groove which is guaranteed to get you up and dancing!

  • Session One (10.30am-1pm): Eric Lee
  • Session Two (13.30-4pm): Sira
  • Session Three (4.30-7pm): H.T.M
  • Session Four (7.30-10.30pm): Ken Song

Wait one second though! They won’t be the only DJs playing, we will also have our own special Beijinger DJ, DJ Bribery! Have a song request? All you need to do is bribe him and he will play your song. 

Now, of course, let’s not forget about the pizza! Our Final Four Cheesy Pizza Cup contenders Gung Ho!, Pie Squared, Forno and Joe’s Pizza plus a mystery pizza will all be slinging their pies there. To wash it all down with SLOWBOAT BREWERY, CHEERS and ROC will also be there serving up beer, wine and cocktails.

Just as the ancient Silk Road connected China to the world, sharing food, culture, and ideas between East and West, today’s Belt and Road – aka the New Silk Road – has reconnected China to the world in much the same way.


And what better way to explore the various cultures that can be found along these new trade routes than with a festival?


 


Enter the Belt & Road Food Fest. A collaboration between Langyuan Station and the Beijinger, this event is going to be more than just food.

We here at the Beijinger are big fans of food from all over the world, and we got to thinking: how can we share this love of international cuisines with our readers?


The answer to this is our brand-new Fan Addicts Dining Club!



A play on the Chinese word fan (meaning “rice” or “meal”) and the English “fanatic”, Fan Addicts is our latest foray into the world of food in Beijing – a dining club that will enable guests to travel the world with their taste buds, meeting at a new restaurant monthly to try a different international cuisine each time.

We’ll also feature games and competitions like Georgian booze tastings, a Georgian-themed quiz, and a traditional Georgian “Tamada” toasting competition, in which our audience will be challenged to make the best toast.



Taking place at the same time as the restaurant’s 7th anniversary celebrations, our event will feature the best of Georgian cuisine: grill platters with lamb, beef and chicken; Georgian-style dumplings; Georgian-style chicken with garlic sauce, and of course the pride and joy of Georgia – the dish that many consider the progenitor to pizza – the lusciously cheesy Khachapuri.”

Each table at the taste-offs gets their own pizza from each of the four contestants, along with beer from Brooklyn Brewery, a limited-edition Pizza Cup collectible, and of course the most important thing of all: the sacred right to choose the best.

Chugga chugga, this train is headed for the stars... and for the juiciest burgers in town! The space-themed 2021 Beijing Burger Festival is back on at Langyuan Station Track-Field for Mid-Autumn Festival weekend, Sep 19-21!


We know it's been a long wait, and we thank you for your patience as we deal with the cards we've been dealt. But remember, the longer the meat marinates, the tastier it becomes. Luckily for flavor lovers, it's been an extra-long wait for this year's Beijing Burger Festival!


Regardless of early engine trouble, you'd better believe this ship is launching into the cosmos in search of the tastiest burgers this city has to offer! After all, what's better than a space-themed burger festival on a holiday celebrating the moon?


That's right, Burger Fest 2021 is back during Mid-Autumn Festival, Sep 19-21 at Langyuan Station!

There will be three days of munching on juicy patties, sipping on cool drinks, and jamming fun vibes out by the old train tracks. It's like 2001 Space Oddesey meets Stand By Me, which has almost certainly never, ever been done. You won't want to miss out on the first time that all Beijing burger lovers gather at this amazing venue for the first time. 



Where is Langyuan Station, you may ask? Many of you burger fans may know the area from the new Station Grill, which is hot amongst the Instragram set. It’s just inside the East 5th Ring, just a skip eastward from 798 and Indigo. The area lacks a convenient public transport stop so your best bet is to Didi over there from the nearest station — Jiangtai on Line 14 — and grab a Didi or a sharebike from there.


 



Don't forget to wear your best astro gear to this year's space-themed fest!


 


Of course, with as much trouble that this COVID business has given us, we're being as careful as possible.  All guests must show their health code and must have not traveled to any medium- or high-risk areas for the past 14 days.  Furthermore, we strongly suggest that all guests be vaccinated, and non-vaccinated guests should reconsider attendance.
