A favorite of Dongsishitiao-dwelling foreigners in spite of its location down a fairly anonymous hutong, this restaurant is less rough-and-ready than the average Xinjiang eatery – perhaps that’s the reason for its popularity. Maybe it’s because of snacks like the chunky lamb skewers (yangrou chuan’r), baked flatbread or sweetened yogurt. Alternatively, it could be the huge portions of hearty dishes like the chicken, potato and green pepper stew (da pan ji). Whatever the cause of its success, Crescent Moon keeps the customers coming back for more, and deserves its reputation as one of the best Muslim restaurants around. Have some Xinjiang beer (light and dark beers available) with your meal. Voted "Outstanding Xinjiang" in the Beijinger's 2010 Reader Restaurant Awards.
