Opened in late November in 2014, YU Bar quietly took down its sign and the abandoned van with a big arrow pointing to YU Bar had mysteriously disappeared. But with a new lick of yellow paint, and without any announcement or celebration, the space became Dr. Cactus in January 2016.
The chicken fajitas (RMB 70) come out sizzling and are served with four tortillas and generous portions of sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. The salads are big (although the avocado was missing), while the margarita (RMB 50), recommended by many was a little sweet, and the bartender was stingy on his booze pours (at least for our rather heavy tastes).
Unlike when it was filled with backpackers from the neighboring hostel earlier in its life, it’s now hard to find a vacant table outside at 7.30pm on a normal weekday evening, those seats occupied by people who work nearby. Dr. Cactus also delivers to neighboring areas, like Xingfu Ercun, Seasons Park, and Dongzhimen.
