A narrow, cozy little space on Nanluogu Xiang, Lian Yunnan must only be able to seat around – absolute maximum – 30 diners, but no matter how small the restaurant, a lack of empty seats is a good sign. Unsurprisingly, the restaurant’s raison d’etre is Yunannese cuisine, and the menu reflects that with plenty of the region’s specialty mushroom dishes, as well as trademarks like meat and veg main courses wrapped in bamboo leaves. Mains average RMB 20-40, and topping the bill is the chicken and mushroom wrapped in bamboo leaves (RMB 98).Yunnan’s favorite staple, “crossing-the-bridge” noodles (guo qiao mi xian, 过桥米线) cross your lips for RMB 18, and the province’s sweet, light rice wine comes served in a ceramic bottle for RMB 25.
