Ultra Fest 2018 Endures: EDM Elite Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Axwell A Ingrosso on the Bill
Beijing EDM diehards have plenty of reason to celebrate, thanks to the (surprise) announcement that Ultra Festival 2018 is back. The festival will take place on Sep 15 and 16 at the NHC Base in the northwestern suburb of Changping, despite a number of hurdles that left dance fans concerned that the fest would never actually make it to the capital.
Among the star DJs set to perform at the outdoor dance music extravaganza are Afrojack (of "Give Me Everything" and "Run the World (Girls)” fame), Armin van Buuren (whose single "This Is What It Feels Like” was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording), Axwell A Ingrosso (also known for their work in the house supergroup Swedish House Mafia), and many more. The full lineup can be seen on the poster below:
Founded as an annual electronic music festival in Miami, Florida back in 1999 (and named after the 1997 Depeche Mode album, Ultra) the festival became such a smash success that it was spun off into Ultra Worldwide iterations in locales as varied as Cape Town, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, and the Croatian city of Hvar, among others.
Ultra was set to return to China this year (after making its debut in 2017 in Shanghai) with both a Beijing leg on Sep 8-9 and another fest in the Pearl City, but the former was postponed and the latter was eventually canceled completely, leaving the DJs to pitch up at decks at various venues across town. Given those hiccups, Beijing fans will no doubt be happy to see the festival resurface with a bill that features some of the biggest names in electronic dance music.
Tickets are on sale now and range from RMB 1,280-1,580. To purchase, and for more information, click here.
