Jing-ify Your Oscar Party With These Beijing-Style, Oscar-Inspired Cocktails

The Oscar results are in, and you're still stuck inside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate with style! Grab your cocktail shakers and pour in a cold shot of erguotou – it's time to Beijingify this Oscar party! (Beware, Oscars spoilers await. Beijing ingredients in bold.)

Parasite: Soju Boilermaker

Korean film Parasite won Best Picture at this year's Oscars, and from his acceptance speech alone ("I’m very ready to drink tonight until next morning"), director Bong Joon-ho isn't shy about enjoying a drink. In honor of Bong's achievement of not only winning Best Picture but also becoming the first foreign language film to do so, we've naturally selected soju – Korea's national drink – for this afterparty tipple.

Ingredients

  • Yanjing beer
  • 60ml soju
  • Lemon/lime soda
  • Lemon garnish

Pour half a glass of Yanjing beer and top it off with the lemon/lime soda, leaving enough room to pour in the shot of soju. Garnish with a lemon.

Judy: Baijiu Judy Garland

Luckily, there is already a cocktail named after the subject of this film, which won Best Actress for Renee Zellweger's depiction of the great Judy Garland.

Ingredients

  • 30ml Grenadine syrup
  • 30ml cherry syrup
  • 90ml erguotou
  • Lemon/lime soda

Mix the Grenadine, cherry syrup, and the erguotou before pouring into a highball glass and filling with lemon or lime soda.

Joker: Tanghulu Touch of Evil Punch

Rewatch Joaquin Phoenix's inspiring Best Actor acceptance speech for his role in Joker while wasted on this wickedly sweet tanghulu punch.

Ingredients

  • 4 lemons
  • Two sticks of tanghulu
  • 180ml sugar
  • 100ml fresh lemon juice
  • 600ml gin
  • 200ml tequila
  • 1 liter sparkling water
  • Lemon peel garnish
  • Grated nutmeg or cinnamon garnish

Break the tanghulu into pieces. Pour the gin and tequila over the tanghulu and lemon peels and let it sit for an hour to absorb the sugar. Mix the white sugar and lemon juice with 900ml of water and pour it into the tanghulu mixture. Add the sparkling water and serve over ice with garnish.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: Beibingyang Margaritas

The Best Supporting Actor award may have gone to Brad Pitt for his performance as Cliff Booth, but you can still live it up like Rick Dalton with this Beijing spin on a classic.

  • 180ml white tequila
  • 120ml lime juice
  • 60ml Simple Syrup
  • One 330ml can of Beibingyang soda

Mix the ingredients in a pitcher, then pour over ice into a salted-rim glass.

Marriage Story: Plumb Manhattan

A stiff drink to wash down the tatters of a bitterly fought New York divorce.

Ingredients

  • 90ml bourbon
  • 30ml sweet vermouth
  • Bitters
  • 15ml suanmeitang

Combine the bourbon, vermouth, and a dash of bitters. Shake with ice and pour into a highball glass. Garnish with a cherry.
