Dada Rises From the Ashes in New Ritan Digs Wednesday, Oct 27
Five months after closing its legendary 206 Gulou location, Dada announced yesterday the grand opening of their new digs over in Ritan. Located in the basement of the Ritan International Trade Center and surrounded by a somewhat surreal – at least when you’re drunkenly stumbling through it at 3am – Russian version of Silk Market, Dada Beijing 2.0 is twice the size of its previous incarnation, with plenty more seating and a brand new, state-of-the-art sound system to boot.
While a bit classier on the surface, fans of the grittier warehouse aesthetic won’t be disappointed, as the new location is still cement-clad, albeit in a way that balances functionality and design. Likewise, aside from some new signature cocktails and an expanded whisky menu, Dada devotees can expect “the same familiar vibes and music” that underpins this Beijing institution.
“Losing the old location was heartbreaking, but I’m equally excited about the new one. It’s time for a new adventure,” says Dada’s impresario, Michael. “That said, there will be a lot of continuity between the old and new location.”
Save for a grand opening party on Wednesday (more on that below), Dada’s lineup will basically pick up where it left off, with their regular Thursday night gig, Raw Meat, kicking off again on Oct 28, and the capital’s preeminent cold wave trio, Pretty Cold, making their fifth Dada Halloween weekend appearance on Friday, Oct 29, followed by Michael himself – aka DJ Ozone – hosting his Stupid 80s Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct 30.
However, all of that will be preceded by a grand re-opening party Oct 27, featuring a staggering lineup of 68 DJs, each playing a six-minute set. Details don’t go much deeper than that, but honestly, we can’t think of a better way to bust open the doors of a club long known for hosting a wide array of genres and styles. When it comes to dizzying, foggy Dada nights, nothing says lose your head like a revolving door of DJs blasting through everything from house to minimal and rock to darkwave.
Dada Beijing 2.0’s free grand opening starts at 9pm on Oct 27. Click here for more information.
