Backstage Pass: Dark Funeral

Can you remember the last time a group of Satanists came to town? Swedish black metal rockers Dark Funeral will help celebrate Painkiller Magazine’s 12th anniversary as part of Painkiller Fest 2012. We’re expecting quite a raucous congregation.

The buzz
Fresh off a tour of the US, and with the plaudits for their 2009 album Angelus Exuro pro Eternus still ringing in their ears, Lord Ahriman and his band of not-so-merry men hit China for the first time. The band has recovered well from losing their controversial frontman, Emperor Magus Caligula, in 2010. (If you’re wondering what prompted the Emperor’s departure, it’s that he wanted to get married and settle down. Awww.)

Key tracks
“My Funeral,” “Stigmata”

They say:
“I’m totally against censorship. The way I see it, as long as it’s not illegal, if you find something on the Internet you don’t like, just don’t f***ing watch it!”

We say:
We hope we never meet black metal’s Dowager Countess.

See them at: MAO Livehouse on Nov 11.
